Institutions must acquire talented individuals. Once they are on board, they must also develop and retain the talent of a diverse workforce to ensure that the organization continues to adapt to ever-changing demands upon its resources. Participants will explore various growth and incentive-based models for personnel. This course will help future leaders examine the methods to implement an evaluation model in their organization which is a product of the collaborative voice of those impacted and engaged by it.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Weekly discussions and practical assignments are key to this course.
The discussion topics will provide an opportunity to share content and ideas, as well as exchange feedback in this course. You will post a response to a prompt presented in the weekly whole class discussion forum. Initial posts must be submitted by 11:59 pm ET on Wednesday of each week (Week 1 exception: initial post is due on Friday); second posts must be submitted by 11:59 pm ET on Sunday of each week.
You will be role-playing a leader providing a presentation to your governance board. Your task is to respond to organizational underperformance and what should be done to achieve the desired outcomes.
This week you will be sharing your district’s evaluation system with the educational community in the form of a newsletter. You will share what it is intended to achieve, how you will apply the system to achieve that outcome, and how you will measure the success of the evaluation system.
This week you will be producing an onboarding plan for new staff in the form of a tri-fold brochure to orientate them to the organizational culture and establish a clear understanding of staff expectations as measured through the staff evaluation process.
This week you will be leading a discussion with your leadership team and empowering the team to develop a plan of action to improve a data point that is not consistent with the organizational outcomes desired. You will be producing a document, an “Action Research Proposal”, to share with all stakeholders.
You will be producing your year’s-end talent development budget for sharing with your governance team.
This week you will be replicating a Design Thinking strategy to achieve a diverse talent acquisition process that will result in acquiring diverse talent that reflects the communities that your educational setting serves.
Imagine you are meeting with stakeholder groups. Your goal is to produce a plan of action that would empower these support groups to assist in the talent retention process through identifying services, supports, and systems that can be used as a supplement to current compensation plans for professionals.
In your final week, you will be putting it all together. Imagine you are applying for a position in evaluation and supervision. As part of the interview process is a screener question where you must respond to a number of questions demonstrating your understanding, capacity, and insights into successful leadership evidenced through Talent-focused vision.

The Graduate Programs in Education holds the position that Grammarly and other AI writing and generative technology should not be used when completing course assignments, unless explicitly permitted by course faculty and assignment instructions. These tools do not support a student’s personal and direct capacity to develop and hone skills in creativity, logic, critical thinking, analysis, evaluation, theorization, and writing, which are central to graduate-level rigor, assessment, and research. Use of these tools when not explicitly permitted may result in an academic integrity infraction.
The College of Professional Studies uses Turnitin to help deter plagiarism and to foster the proper attribution of sources. Turnitin provides comparative reports for submitted assignments that reflect similarities in other written works. This can include, but is not limited to, previously submitted assignments, internet articles, research journals, and academic databases.
Make sure to cite your sources appropriately as well as use your own words in synthesizing information from published literature. Webinars and workshops, included early in your coursework, will help guide best practices in APA citation and academic writing.
You can learn more about Turnitin in the guide on how to navigate your Similarity Report.

Course surveys are one of the most important tools the University of New England uses for evaluating the quality of your education, and for providing meaningful feedback to instructors on their teaching. In order to assure that the feedback is both comprehensive and precise, we need to receive it from each student for each course. Evaluation access is distributed via UNE email at the beginning of the last week of the course.
Assignments: Late assignments will be accepted up to 3 days late; however, there is a 10% grade reduction (from the total points) for the late submission. After three days the assignment will not be accepted.
Discussion posts: If the initial post is submitted late, but still within the discussion board week, there will be a 10% grade reduction from the total discussion grade (e.g., a 3 point discussion will be reduced by 0.3 points). Any posts submitted after the end of the Discussion Board week will not be graded.
Please make every effort ahead of time to contact your instructor and your student support specialist if you are not able to meet an assignment deadline. Arrangements for extenuating circumstances may be considered by faculty.
