This course continues the study of calculus. More techniques of integration will be investigated in this course. The concepts of limits, differentiation, and integration will be applied to problems in differential equations, sequences, series, and Taylor series. Parametric equations, polar coordinates, and vectors will also be introduced. (Calculus 1 is a prerequisite for this course).
Students will be instructed in utilization of technology. Online, freely available technology will often be recommended. Student calculations will be submitted via WebAssign mathematical editor for online homework. Students will utilize email and/or Brightspace for written communication.
An understanding of the topics and core concepts in Calculus I is prerequisite knowledge for Calculus II.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:
On the course start date, students will have access to orientation. This must be completed to be able to gain access to the first module in the course. Students must complete the first module to gain access to the next one. We recommend that students spend about 15 hours per week to complete a course in 16 weeks. When trying to complete the course in less than 16 weeks, we typically see students do this successfully within 12-14 weeks. Instructors will be timely in grading and feedback, but it will not be instant.
Project one is an application of calculus to a problem in epidemiology. Students will follow steps in a document to create a solution for the problem. Students will then compile their results and present them in a slideshow presentation.
Project two applies what students have learned in the course to a problem in pharmacokinetics. Students will follow the steps in a document to create a series to represent the concentration of a drug in the bloodstream of a patient. Students will then use the series to answer questions about the dosage, potency, and frequency of drug administration. Students will type up their solutions using the online LaTeX editor, Overleaf.
Thirteen problem sets are assigned through Webassign, an online homework tool. The problem sets typically cover problems from three different sections of the text. Students can retry problems if they get questions wrong.
There will be a total of five discussion boards in the course. The first discussion board is an introductory discussion and is not for credit. The other four discussion boards are designed to encourage students to collaborate with one another on problems in the course that are challenging them. Students will ask questions then, later on in the course, will respond to questions for credit.
A midterm exam will take place in Blackboard at week eight. The midterm exam covers chapters one, three, and four. A practice midterm exam will be available to help students study. This Exam must be taken though ProctorU. See UNE’s ProctorU page for information about signing up and scheduling your exam. A UNE approved webcam is required.
A final exam will take place in Blackboard at week sixteen. This exam will cover material from weeks eight to sixteen. A practice exam will be available to help students study. Students will receive two attempts at all proctored examinations. The higher score of the two attempts will be calculated into the final grade.

In their courses, students are not allowed to use advanced automated tools, such as generative AI tools, on assignments unless explicitly directed to do so. Each student is expected to complete each assignment, including labs and quizzes as applicable, without substantive assistance from others, including automated tools.
Using AI-content generators to complete assignments without proper attribution violates academic integrity. By submitting assignments in UNE courses, you pledge to affirm that they are your own work and you attribute use of any and all tools and sources.
