This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the healthcare systems, covering its historical evolution, economic foundations, and the legal, regulatory, political, and ethical forces shaping healthcare today. Through case studies, debates, and interactive activities, students will critically examine the complexities of healthcare delivery, with a focus on policy, finance, managed care, and quality measures. The course will also explore the perspectives of key stakeholders and the impact of legal and ethical decisions on current practices. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to analyze contemporary healthcare challenges and engage with the future of healthcare delivery from an informed and critical perspective.

All weeks include a discussion prompt where students are required to submit an initial post and one or two response post(s).
Unless otherwise specified, initial posts are due Saturdays by 11:59 pm ET; responses to at least two peers are due Tuesdays by 11:59 pm ET.
Several weeks include short Review Quizzes, consisting of 10 multiple-choice questions based on the week’s course materials.
In week 2, students will submit a topic selection and reflection for their final project that will be due in week 7.
In week 3, students will submit an annotated bibliography for resources related to their final project.
In week 4, students will begin working on their issue exploration, and in week 5, they will submit a 2 to 3-page paper outlining their chosen issue for their final project
In week 6, students will research and select a TedTalk and/or Podcast based on their chosen topic to enhance their final project.
In week 7, students will create a 5 to 7-minute recorded presentation with visuals, submitted both to the instructor and their peers for feedback
In week 8, students will review 3 to 4 of their classmates’ presentations and provide meaningful feedback.
In week 8, students will complete a final reflection on their experience in the course.

Late assignments will be accepted up to 3 days late; however, there is a 10% grade reduction (from the total points) for the late submission. After three days the assignment will not be accepted. Discussion posts: If the initial post is submitted late, but still within the discussion board week, there will be a 10% grade reduction from the total discussion grade (e.g., a 3-point discussion will be reduced by 0.3 points). Any posts submitted after the end of the Discussion Board week will not be graded. Please make every effort ahead of time to contact your instructor if you are not able to meet an assignment deadline. Arrangements for extenuating circumstances may be considered by faculty.

10+ -week courses: Students taking online graduate courses through the College of Professional Studies will be administratively dropped for non-participation if a graded assignment/discussion post is not submitted before Friday at 11:59 pm ET of the second week of the term. Reinstatement is at the purview of the Dean's Office.
